Sundays, easy Sundays

Updated: Aug 14, 2024

This is my first post here so forgive some of the sketchiness in writing, some of the language used, take all with a pinch of salt as I refine my writing form to get some of what I experience across here in the 2D world.

Firstly, I would like to welcome you to my blog. I realise to keep it up to date is a bit of a commitment. But perhaps commitment is what I need right now...

In this post, I would like to discuss the Tarot in general and touch down on the Major & Minor Arcana.

The Major Arcana has 22 cards, 21 numbered cards, and 1 card with 0 - the Fool. The journey here usually starts (or ends in some decks with number 22) with the Fool. The Fool marks the door. The door where something closes, and something new opens. S/he is often seen traveling somewhere, and s/he sure travels light. So when you think about that, the lightness is in its purest form, the new dawn, the new life, no 'baggage', but more on the Fool another time :)

The reason why I touched on the Fool here he is always at the 'beginning' or the 'end' of a journey. What happens inbetween are all the Fool's trials and tribulations, where all the archetypes (personalities that make us, are reflected in people around us, or aspects of ourselves) teach the Fool something, the archetypes offer lessons or gifts (usually both, where lesson can be seen as a gift of growth). The Fool is us, you, me, the Querant.

The archetypes are linked to various different modes of understanding the universe, wherethere they are linked to planets through means of astrology, the energy / concsciousness, or the 'typical' people in our lives (mother - Empress, father - Emperor, guide or teacher - Magician or the Devil, etc.) which may be easier to relate to. Yet, you may find (if you feel keen to do so) learning astrology through means of Tarot is fairly straight forward journey, and for me it is one full of interesting downloads - those AHA moments ;)

Then we have the Minor Arcana, 56 cards consisting of 4 groups of elemental energies - Fire -> Wands or Staffs, Water - Cups or Vessels or Hearts, Earth - Pentacles or Discs, Air - Swords, Knifes or Daggers. The Minor Arcana is all about the tools, bridges, further / deeper interpretations of where were are, what the obstacles are, they kind of serve as another angle to the Major arcana. Numbers 1-10 have a typical numerical value, where looking at the number one (or the Ace) is the rawest form of a idea, something unmanifested, something deep within, often offered from the Devine as a potential arrow to a form. Number 10 being the completion of the cycle this element represents in our lives. The last (but not least!) 4 cards in each suit are the most common archetypal figures in our lifes. But again more on this another time.

So, what I'm trying to say here I guess is for us to really start to understand that life is a journey, and everything happening is full of mini-journeys with 100's of different stories through our perceptions and individual experiences. There's no beginning and end (as such) although life is made of many beginnings and endings, and some of which we may never even notice. Each journey is part of a bigger (ever-evolving) journey, and nothing ever really ends.

Tarot is trying to connect us with our own understanding of what journey we are on, and provides us with insights and guidance to where on those journeys we are, the obstacles we are faced with, how can we overcome them, and if we listen to the guidance (which really is just our own personal guidance from within - our intuition, the cards are only visual representation of that which is happening within us!) it can then predict which direction we are going. So we are not necessarily predicting future by reading Tarot. We are simply analysing where we are, learning something about ourselves (whether we like it or not), and move towards places where we are intended to direct ourselves. That means sometimes we may need to stop the way we are going. That is the power of Tarot...
